Cyber posture

The Council of the EU has approved conclusions on the development of the European Union's cyber posture, which responds to the need to counter cyber threats against the Union and its Member States by enhancing the EU's ability to prevent cyberattacks.

The conclusions stem from the Strategic Compass and define five functions that the EU has in the cyber domain:

  • strengthen resilience and capacities to protect;
  • enhance solidarity and comprehensive crisis management;
  • promote the EU’s vision of cyberspace;
  • enhance cooperation with partner countries and international organisations;
  • prevent, defend against and respond to cyber-attacks.
