Global

International organisations play a key role in forging global consensus regarding the future of the Internet governance and peaceful use of ICTs. For over 20 years, the United Nations system has served as a platform for advancing the global conversation about the importance and benefits of free and open cyberspace for human development as well as the risks resulting from the proliferation of ICTs. Cooperation through the UN – and the UN Group of Governmental Experts, in particular – has significantly contributed to clarifying the dilemmas associated with the application of the existing international law in cyberspace, to developing norms of responsible behaviour, as well as promoting the importance of Confidence Building Measures in cyberspace.
