On 26 June 2024, the EU Cyber Direct – EU Cyber Diplomacy Initiative organised a high-level roundtable in collaboration with the European External Action Service and the EU Institute for Security Studies.
Titled “Bridging the Silos - Leveraging cyber within the foreign, security and defence policy of the EU”, the discussions explored how the EU could bridge silos between cyber and other key areas of foreign and security policy, leveraging cyber as a strategic tool.
The event delved into two sessions, where session one explored the distinctive elements of cyber diplomacy, operations, and capacity building. Discussions focused on attribution challenges, plausible deniability, and the role of technology. Session two examined why cyber should not be treated as a separate domain and is just another side of military operations, diplomacy or security strategies.
This timely roundtable provided a valuable platform for experts to discuss how the EU can harness the potential of cyberspace and strengthen its strategic posture in the face of evolving geopolitical realities.
