EU-NATO Joint Declaration

Short Summary
On 8 July 2016, the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Council and the Secretary General of NATO signed in Warsaw a Joint Declaration which recognized, among others, an urgent need to:

  • foster resilience through joint efforts on analysis, prevention, and early detection, through timely information sharing and, to the extent possible, intelligence sharing between staffs;
  • cooperation on strategic communication and response;
  • development of coordinated procedures;
  • expansion of coordination on cyber security and defence including in the context of missions and operations, exercises and on education and training (development of parallel and coordinated exercises for 2017 and 2018).
The Declaration also called for a stronger defence industry and greater defence research and industrial cooperation within Europe and across the Atlantic.
